  14. *** What is Meal-Meister? ***

  17.          Meal-Meister is a menu-driven database system specially created and 
  18.      tailored to manage your recipes. With Meal-Meister, you can store, 
  19.      update, and print your recipes in a variety of formats. You can 
  20.      search for recipes using any combination of Title, Category, or 
  21.      Ingredient criteria. And you can have Meal-Meister automatically up-
  22.      scale and downscale recipes to get the number of servings you need! 
  23.      Meal-Meister not only replaces the dog-eared, disorganized collection 
  24.      of index cards found in most kitchens, it gives you an invaluable tool 
  25.      for meal selection and preparation!

  28. *** What equipment is needed? ***

  31.          Meal-Meister should run on any IBM-PC, PC-XT, or close compatible 
  32.       with at least 128k of memory.  It will run on floppy or hard disk
  33.       systems, with either a color or monochrome monitors.

  36. *** How do I get started? ***
  37. -----------------------------

  39.      To start using Meal-Meister, you need only the program file (MM.COM). 
  40.      When you type "MM" and press return, Menu-Meister will begin to run.
  41.  
  42.      Meal-Meister stores your recipes in three files: INDEX.MMF, 
  43.      INGRED.MMF, and DIRECT.MMF. It also uses a fourth file, PARM.MMF, to 
  44.      store information such as what kind of forms you are using on your 
  45.      printer. If any of these files are not found when Meal-Meister starts 
  46.      up, they are created automatically. This makes Meal-Meister very
  47.      easy to install: Just copy the file MM.COM to the diskette or hard 
  48.      disk directory of your choice, type MM, and press return. You are 
  49.      ready to start entering your recipes!

  52. *** OK, it's running - now what? ***

  55.      Menu-Meister is completely menu driven and very easy to use.

  57.      Adding Recipes
  58.

  61.      Selecting 'A' from the main menu is used to Add new recipes. You will 
  62.      be prompted for the title, categories (each recipe can reference up to 
  63.      five categories), number of servings, ingredients, and directions. The 
  64.      recipe will then be stored on your diskette or hard disk (don't worry 
  65.      if you make a mistake during entry; recipes can be easily revised - 
  66.      see below).

  73.      Searching for Recipes
  74.      ---------------------
  75.      Selecting 'S' from the main menu takes you to the heart of Menu-
  76.      Meister. Here you can specify search criteria and have Meal-Meister 
  77.      find the recipes that match. You can instruct Meal-Meister to select 
  78.      only those recipes which:
  79.  
  80.           a) Contain a certain word or phrase in their title;
  81.  
  82.           b) Reference a certain category (i.e., Soups or Main dishes);
  83.  
  84.           c) Use a specific ingredient (i.e., find all recipes that are 
  85.              made with hamburger);
  86.  
  87.           d) Any combination of the above search criteria can be used 
  88.              together to limit selection to the specific recipe(s) you 
  89.              are looking for.

  91.      Once you have entered your search criteria, pressing 'S' will start the 
  92.      search. The number and title of each recipe that qualifies will be 
  93.      listed. If you start the search without entering any search criteria, 
  94.      all recipes in the file will be listed.  Note that a search may be
  95.      stopped at any time by pressing the ESC key.

  98.      Listing and Revising
  99.      --------------------
  100.      The selected recipes will be followed by a prompt asking if you wish 
  101.      to list or revise one of the selected recipes.

  103.      If you type 'L', another prompt will ask whether you want to list the 
  104.      recipe on the screen or on your printer. If you select the printer, 
  105.      the recipe will be printed using the parameters specified in the 
  106.      'Utilities' section of the program ('U' from the main menu. In utili-
  107.      ties, you can specify what size and type of forms you are using, and 
  108.      any characters you want sent to the printer, e.g., to set condensed 
  109.      print)

  111.      If you type 'R', you will get the Revise menu. From here, you can 
  112.      update the selected recipe title and category list; add, delete or 
  113.      revise ingredients and directions; and change the number of servings. 
  114.      When changing the number of servings, Meal-Meister will ask you if you 
  115.      want the ingredient quantities automatically adjusted. If you answer 
  116.      yes, Meal-Meister will adjust all the ingredient quantities in the same 
  117.      proportions as the serving size change you have made!

  119.      You can also 'Remove' a recipe from the file.  When you use this option,
  120.      the recipe is not really deleted, but just marked as removed.  The 
  121.      recipe can still be seen in searches and can be 'Restored' until it is
  122.      permanantly deleted by use of the "Reorganize File" option on the 
  123.      Utilities menu.

  133.      The preceding instructions, and some experimentation, should get you 
  134.      started using Meal-Meister. However, a complete users manual is 
  135.      available that includes complete descriptions of all Meal-Meister's 
  136.      functions, including the advanced features not mentioned here, and a 
  137.      step-by-step tutorial. The manual is included when you register your 
  138.      copy of Meal-Meister.

  144.      Meal-Meister is distributed using the Shareware concept. This allows 
  145.      you to "try before you buy". You are encouraged to copy and distribute 
  146.      this program, so long as:

  148.           1) No fee is charged for copying/distribution, and
  149.           2) It is distributed in its complete original form.
  150.  
  151.      Meal-Meister may not be used in a commercial environment or govern-
  152.      mental agency without explicit licensing from the Episoft Systems Co.

  154.      If you find Meal-Meister useful, you are urged to register you copy. 
  155.      When you register, you will receive:

  157.           1) The latest version of Meal-Meister, with latest features,
  158.           2) Meal-Meister user's manual, binder, and tutorial,
  159.           3) Meal-Meister utilities programs,
